Young Dogs - Beyond the Challenges: Strengthening the Bond with Your Adolescent Dog (6 x 1hr Sessions)
Our Young Dogs - Beyond the Challenges course is specifically designed for adolescent dogs aged 6 months to 2 years. This program aims to enhance the bond between dogs and their owners, making you as high value as the exciting environment around them.
Why This Course is Important:
During adolescence, dogs that were previously well-behaved can become less responsive to their owners' cues due to the myriad of exciting stimuli in their environment. This often results in regressions in loose lead walking and recall skills that were learned during puppyhood.
Our course focuses on:
-
Building Strong Bonds: Techniques to ensure your dog values your presence as much as the environment.
-
Positive Reinforcement: It is now even more important than ever to focus on what you want your dog to do. Learn how to set them up for success and continue rewarding them for their hard work.
-
Management: Learn to manage the things that you can so you are setting your teenage dog up for easy wins. For example, ensuring they aren't put in situations where they are likely to ignore you.
-
Interactive Fun: Making sure that the fun interactions happen between you and your dog, so you become their source of excitement, not just the squirrel, bird, rabbit, other dog, or child.
What We Cover:
-
Loose Lead Walking: Keep the value in staying in close proximity with you.
-
Reliable Recall: Strengthening the recall cue even in distracting environments. Let’s get that recall cue to be an invitation for your dog to come and party with you.
-
Engagement Games: Playful activities that make you the center of your dog's attention.
-
Using the Environment as a Reinforcer: Interaction with the environment can be a reward after focusing on you, making them more likely to do so again.
